What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a regulated health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the joints, muscles and nerves of the body, especially those of the spine, and the effects these conditions have on overall health. Accordingly treatment is aimed at improving function, increasing mobility and easing pain.
In the UK, chiropractors are regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and abide by a Code of Practice and Standards of Proficiency, which ensures the high level of care you would expect from a responsible healthcare professional.
It is important to appreciate that chiropractic is a profession as opposed to a type of treatment. Having had a minimum of four years undergraduate training, your chiropractor is able to draw from a wide variety of treatment techniques in order to help you in the most appropriate way. Every chiropractor also has to complete at least 30 hours of continuing professional development each year.
At Casterbridge Chiropractic, we typically far exceed this requirement to offer scientifically supported, evidence based treatment, backed up by years of experience. As a result, you can be assured of high quality, safe and effective care.
Our chiropractors are trained in the taking and reading of X-rays. Although only a small percentage of patients require X-rays, they can be an invaluable aid to the diagnosis and management of some cases.
Treatment is “hands-on” and will often include manual therapies including manipulation and mobilisation of the joints, soft-tissue techniques to release muscle tension and mobilisation of nerves. Our chiropractors also use dry-needling (acupuncture), Kinesio-Taping, orthotics and other modalities including ultrasound to help patients in the most appropriate way. Treatment is backed up with rehabilitation exercises, ergonomic and lifestyle advice to achieve long-term improvements in health.
